As you soak in the 40-acre property located in Southeast Tulsa, the site is truly inspiring. As you explore you might also chance upon an arrowhead - artifacts of Cherokee or Choctaw that once roamed here or run into its namesake Bittersweet plants. The heavily wooded land dips on the east and west sides to the center creating a natural pond and a watering hole for its wild inhabitants and becomes the focal point of the house. The house draws its inspiration from period ranch architecture and design and captures the charm of this land. The use of materials is also emblematic of this approach. All the exterior and interior stone was quarried at this property and set with raked mortar for a dry-stacked look.  The timbers and barn wood sourced have a rustic texture and the metals and connections bear a natural patina finish. The interior walls employ reclaimed wood panels seamed using the chinking process. Exteriors along with the stone are complemented with bark siding and rough-hewn wood. As the house meanders along the natural contours of the land, the central interior spaces are opened up using steel doors and windows used for their narrow mullion profiles.
